Dear High School East Students and Families,

It is my hope that this message finds you healthy and safe.  Today’s correspondence will focus on procedures for successfully closing out the school year. Please read the information below very carefully as it contains directions for students to return textbooks, novels and other items borrowed during the school year.  We also have a number of students with art work, sports equipment and musical instruments to be retrieved from High School East.  Teachers will make students aware of items that are to be returned to school.  Students, who ordered Yearbooks, will be able to pick them up on their designated day.  Seniors will also receive their caps and gowns.  

Each grade will be assigned a day to visit East to return borrowed items.  Students will be divided into alphabetical cohorts by the first initial of their last name and will be assigned a timespan to arrive at the school.  Please do your best to adhere to your assigned time as we are utilizing safety precautions including social distancing.  We require all visitors to the school to wear a protective facemask.   For each designated day, the school will be open to assigned cohorts from 10am to 5pm.  For students knowingly unable to arrive at the school during their assigned time, we ask that you email your grade-level administrator in advance to schedule a time to arrive between 5pm and 6pm on your grade-level designated day.  Please bring your student ID or bar code as we will be asking students to “turnstile” into East upon entering.

All Students - Please write your name, the name of your teacher and the school year inside of the front cover of any book that you are returning.

Seniors - If you borrowed a Chromebook, please return it to the school on June 4^th.

Students in grades 9, 10 or 11 - If you borrowed a Chromebook, please keep the Chromebook until we return to school in the Fall.  Continue to utilize this device to further your learning and pursue interests during the Summer Break.

Please note that teachers will not be in the building on the days that students are returning items.  Stations will be designated, by teacher name, for the items to be returned.  Students are asked to move at an appropriate pace through the outlined path remaining an appropriate distance (6 feet) from the student in front and behind them.  Students are expected to wear a mask upon exiting their vehicles.  Seniors will exit East though the Library Annex.  Students in grades 9, 10 and 11 will exit the building through the main school entrance. 

End of Year Assignments

In an effort to provide the members of the Class of 2020 with closure we will be modifying the end of the year expectations for them in the following manner:

• June 1^stthrough June 5^th – no class assignments – students will engage in virtual student-directed senior activities
• June 8^ththrough June 12^th – seniors may only receive assignments that enable them to reflect on their learning and their experiences as students of Cherry Hill Public Schools

Essentially, new curricular assignments end when the month of May ends for our seniors. As a reminder, assignments not turned in by May 29^th will become a zero.

Students in Grades 9-11

Students in grades 9-11 have until May 29^th to complete and turn in all assignments. Assignments not turned in by May 29^th will become a zero. All assignments given after May 29^th are due by June 10^th.

Report Cards

The 4^th marking period officially concludes on June 17th.   Report cards will be available for viewing on June 30^th

Summer SAT/College Essay Virtual Workshops (From the Cherry Hill Guidance Department)

Cherry Hill East and West teachers will still lead 4-day workshops to help prepare students for the SAT (or PSAT) test.  The courses will explain testing strategies and use practice materials from actual SAT and PSAT exams.  Additionally, all students will receive materials electronically that they can continue to use as resources after the completion of the workshop.  Each SAT workshop is 3.5 hours long, Monday – Thursday, during the first 2 full weeks in August.  There will be 3 different start times – 9AM, 1PM and 5PM to accommodate different schedules.  Since the workshops are intensive, if your student wants to take both English and Math prep, I suggest doing one prep workshop, English or Math, each week.

If your student is a rising senior, the College Essay workshop will allow your child to have at least one college application essay completed, before the school year even begins!  The teachers will talk about the application process, show model essays, lead exercises to work on aspects of the essay and have multiple individual conferences.  There is a discount for attending all 3 workshops.
